Poor CeeCee Honeycutt is a 12 year old girl living the life of an unthinkably bizarre nightmare. Her Mother suffers from a serious mental illness that causes her to do horribly embarrassing things and eventually ends her short and miserable life. CeeCee’s father gave up on living the family life long ago and now he rarely comes through the front door. The brightest star in CeeCee’s life is her Sunday morning breakfast dates at an elderly neighbors home where she can pretend, for a moment, her life is normal.

When calamity, once again, knocks on the Honeycutts front door and CeeCee loses her mother she wonders what could possibly become of her already highly messed up life. Little did she know she has a great aunt Tootie who will soon come to rescue her. Although Tootie takes CeeCee under her wing and provides her with a healthy, happy life CeeCee’s adventures are far from over as she spends the summer coming to terms with the loss of her mother, the abandonment of her father,  and the realization that there really are so many people who love her.
