Freezing Corn
Freezing Corn
Picking corn at its ripest can be difficult. Corn is ready to pick after the ears have completely filled out. You can tell when the ears are filled out by examining the end of the ear; if it feels rounded or blunt the corn is ripe. If it is pointed the corn needs more time. You will also notice on ripe corn that the silk is beginning to dry up.
Cut the ends off each ear, remove husk and silk.

*

Submerge in Boiling water for 5 minutes

*

Immediately place in ice water to stop cooking and cool enough to handle.

*

Remove corn from Cob

*

Place corn on a large baking sheet and place in the freezer for 30-45 minutes (flash freeze).
Remove corn from freezer, place in zip top bag or food saver bag, remove air and freeze.

*

Let the chickens clean off the corn cobs!!

*

Frozen corn has the best quality if used during the first year.
